Today, I met a photographer who absolutely loves photography.
I know it sounds ridiculous to emphasise a photographer who loves photography. That should be a given, right? It’s in the name. But this guy really loved photography.
Like his whole face lit up when he was describing his shoots, his favourite cameras, his favourite photographers, his favourite spots to shoot in, his favourite models and of course when he showed me his favourite photos.
I’m currently in Porto, Portugal on holiday as I write this. It’s been so amazing having some time to relax and rejuvenate after a very busy start to year. I’m also taking this opportunity to cease all social media and ‘Paula Melissa’ work.
A couple of weeks ago, I ‘quit’ photography. I decided it was time to close my portrait and event photography business, stop taking bookings and go back to when photography was just a fun hobby.
When I booked my photographer on Airbnb (sidenote: Airbnb has some of the BEST experiences and activities when you’re on holiday – thoroughly recommend it, especially for solo travellers – use my Airbnb link for money off your first trip!), I did not expect to be met with such passion and infectious joy about taking photos.
This is my first solo trip out of the UK ever – which has been quite liberating, other than the fact I don’t have anyone to take my photos for me!

It was an absolute privilege to work with Marcelo (check him out on Insta) – you can book him here on AirBnB (tell him I sent you!). He was absolutely amazing at making me look fab.
I even joked that I can add ‘model’ to my bio on Insta now. He gave me some great advice and tips to improve my photography and honestly made me excited to pick up my camera again!
